About Body Lift
There are a variety of body lift procedures available, but choosing the right one comes down to your specific needs and problem areas. The procedure can include one or more of the following areas:
In most cases, patients will have a lower body procedure separate from the upper body, as it can be a huge stress on the healing process to opt for multiple surgeries at once.
A body lift procedure is customized for you, including lifting and tucking of any problem areas you may be concerned with. This surgery is common for excess gain after weight loss. Each area lifted will be treated with liposuction, as well as trimmed for excess skin, leaving you with a body you will be proud to show off.
Your first consultation with Mr Ritz will include discussion about the body lift procedure; he will listen to your concerns with your appearance and address solutions to help you reach your goals. As there are risks to any surgical procedure, you will be informed of any, even minor, complications that may arise, in context with your medical history, medications and current health.
A body lift is a major surgical procedure, and it is important that you are fully aware of what is involved before you make your final decision. You may likely need to have a proper physical examination with blood tests prior to your surgery to be sure you are in well enough health to endure full body surgery and recovery. After your initial consultation, you will meet with Mr Ritz again about 2 weeks prior to your surgery date to discuss logistics and any other questions, reservations or concerns you might have. He and our team are here to support you every step of the way.
During the surgery
On the scheduled day of your surgery, you will be required to arrive at the designated hospital 2 hours prior to your procedure. Depending on the time of your surgery and the procedures being performed, you will either be marked by Mr Ritz upon your arrival or the night before. You will be fully anaesthetised according to your discussion with your doctor, and your initial procedure will begin.
No matter which areas you are addressing in your body lift, Mr Ritz will take special care to keep scars hidden and make only necessary incisions to avoid excess scarring. After an incision is made, liposuction is used to remove excess fat stored in these problem areas, and extra skin will then be removed to contour your new shape.
Your hospital stay will last about one week, so prepare ahead for a significant recovery time. Because a body lift is a combination of multiple procedures on more than one area of the body, recovery time, especially in its beginning stages, needs to be taken slowly and delicately to allow you to fully heal. You will have dressings and drainage tubes. You will be required to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks post surgery.
You will begin to notice the significance of your results as your body heals and your swelling subsides. Your post-operative appointments in our offices will be able to give you the confidence that your recovery is on the right track and help you to identify if there has been a complication that needs to be addressed along the way.
You will be in full recovery mode for the first 2-4 weeks following surgery, dedicating all of your time to resting, staying hydrated, moving periodically and making sure you are well taken care of. You cannot drive during this time, and physical activity, especially exercise, should be avoided for at least 6 weeks following surgery. Mr Ritz will give more specific instructions on a case-by- case basis.
It is important that if you follow post-operative care instructions carefully and completely. Additionally, with any body contouring procedure, you should always be aware that you are in control of your long-term results. If you keep up with your health and fitness, you can be sure that your body lift will last a lifetime.
