Try as you might, you have been unable to contour your thighs through diet and exercise alone. Even after the number on the scale went down, your thighs continue to sport those isolated areas of fat that make clothing uncomfortable and make you self-conscious about your appearance. The good news is there is a plastic surgery procedure that can help you sculpt and slim down your thighs, putting the finishing touch on your body contouring efforts.
Introducing the Thigh Lift
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure that can create the slimmer silhouette you are looking for in your upper leg. The procedure combines liposuction to remove unwanted fat pockets from the thigh and surgical excision to eliminate excess, loose skin. The overall result is an upper leg that is leaner, firmer and one that you can more comfortably flaunt under shorts and bathing suits.
Dr Morris Ritz performs thigh lifts for his Melbourne patients looking for additional contouring in this area. The procedure can also be recommended for patients that recently lost a large amount of weight, often due to bariatric surgery. In these situations, the skin does not always have time to conform to the new body shape, which leaves folds of loose skin around the top of the leg that detract from the patient’s new weight and size. A thigh lift removes that excess skin to create the smoother contour patients are looking for.
Why consider a thigh lift?
There are a number of potential benefits you might gain from undergoing a thigh lift procedure:
- Loose skin is removed, creating a smoother silhouette
- Stubborn areas of fat are eliminated, slimming the contour
- Cellulite in the area may be removed as well
- Reverse the effects of childbirth, weight loss or the ageing process
- Clothing may fit better with the thighs more proportionate to the rest of the lower body
- Renewed self-confidence, particularly in leg-baring fashions
When you come in for your initial consultation, Dr Ritz will discuss your specific concerns and aesthetic goals to determine whether a thigh lift is the right procedure for you.
What to Expect with Your Thigh Lift
Dr Ritz performs thigh lifts under general anaesthesia at one of the hospitals in the Melbourne area. The procedure involves an incision at the top of the leg near the groin. Some patients may also require an incision down the leg, depending on the amount of skin and tissue that needs to be removed. Through the incision, Dr Ritz will use liposuction to eliminate unwanted fat and create a slimmer shape to the thigh. Excess skin is then removed before the incision is sutured closed to give the upper leg a smooth finish.
You will spend 1-2 nights in the hospital after your thigh lift. Drainage tubes may be used to prevent fluid build-up around your incision and assist the healing process. When drainage tubes are removed, you are fitted with a compression garment that will reduce swelling and promote healthy blood flow to the surgical site. Patients are instructed to take it easy the first few days after thigh lift surgery and most don’t return to work and other activities for around 2-3 weeks.
The results of your thigh lift will become apparent as the legs fully heal. Once those results are evident, they should be permanent as long as a healthy weight is maintained after surgery.
